Mammoth Cave National Park features the longest cave system in the world—the Mammoth Caves.

That’s all I got. It’s a long-ass cave. Nothing much else to say.

When you visit, make sure to follow this Mammoth Cave National Park Adventure Guide to maximize your time here.

Recommended Duration of Visit

1 day (ideal), half a day (doable)

  • Download an offline map of the entire Mammoth Cave National Park region, check the weather, prepare all your gear, and finalize nearby lodging. This place is notorious for having bad cell service.
  • Weather-appropriate clothing, sun protection, sunglasses, and comfortable hiking shoes, among others.
  • A light jacket is also helpful since the cave is cold year-round.
  • Mammoth Cave is one of the natural seven wonders of the United States.
  • The temperature in the cave is around 54 F (12 C) year-round.
  • Over 400 miles of the cave are mapped.
  • Mammoth Cave is almost twice as long as the second-longest cave system in the world (Sac Atun in Mexico).
